My Nursing Philosophy

My nursing philosophy is constantly evolving, but at this stage in my development as a nurse leader it is this:
My personal philosophy of nursing is secured within the critical social theory with a focus on the emancipatory and empirical ways of knowing. Nursing is a vitally important profession as there are many unique subpopulations that are cared for. Some of these populations are marginalized and require advocacy by nurses who understand societal power dynamics and have a responsibility to the health outcomes of vulnerable people. It is my belief that actively listening, communicating with the intent to help, and providing proper support to people who require aid will result in a higher level of nursing care from both an emancipatory and empirical way of knowing. By combining the pillars of emancipatory and empirical ways of knowing, I believe that nursing can recognize individual or societal injustices and implement strategies to alleviate inequalities with scientifically proven empirical methods through care plans that have a focus on best practice guidelines. When nurses provide aid to vulnerable populations and those in need, small differences can have positive impacts which can spark an improvement in individual lives and the entirety of society.
My philosophy of leadership is built upon treating others with the utmost respect, actively listening, following through with tasks, and empowering all. My leadership style that I exhibit most often is the transformational leadership style, which is founded on empowering others to transform into their best self. Additionally, my view on learning styles depend on the situation presented as all individuals learn best when a leader presents more opportunities for the integration of learning styles. The context of learning also heavily influences one's ability to properly learn, which requires adaptability of a leader to recognize this and be adaptable to changing the teaching style. I contain this adaptability as a leader and am continuously learning to enhance my leadership abilities, teaching, and learning.
